What Does Christmas Mean To You?

Allison Fisher, Career & Life CoachChristmas day does not have to mean the traditional large family, turkey, ham and beautiful summers day.  Christmas isn’t like that for many and who is to say what is the best kind of Christmas anyway?  Having expectations of what things are “supposed” to be at Christmas can create disappointment and dissatisfaction.  Also the mind will start comparing what others do and have,  and ask Why aren’t we like them!!  Not great for confidence!  This Christmas you decide what you want it to be and with who.

So here are a couple of things to remember at this time of year –

a) What you see in others isn’t necessarily what is real.  Read the glossy gossip magazines and everyone seems like they have such happy families and going to have an amazing Christmas.  Really???  I think not – often what is portrayed is the good stuff not the hard tough, tragic stuff that happens within families.Allison Fisher, Career & Life Coaching

b) Love what you have.  This isn’t the time to wish for a different life/family/mother/house/ in law etc.  This is the time to acknowledge what you do have, whether it’s the love of a wonderful friendship, your gorgeous puppy or a lovely spouse.

c) What can you do with what you have?  How about deciding how you would like your Christmas to be this year.  Forget about “supposed to” and think about wants.  What is the food you can afford and would like?  How can you make it interesting?  Who do you really want to spend Christmas day with and where would you like it to be?  On the beach, at a cafe, in the bush?

This year make Christmas special for you in whatever way that is.

Allison Fisher, Career & Life CoachingWhat ever you do wherever you are, have a merry Christmas day and may 2015 bring all you wish for and all the love you need.

Warmest

Allison

Career & Life Coaching | Winter Mindset

I’ve just got back from a couple of weeks in the warm climes of the US.  As I stepped out of the airport the cold really hit and the next day there was lots of rain and wind.  I found myself moaning about the change of weather and that winter has arrived.  (Life Coaches aren’t positive all the time thank goodness!! 🙂 )  Then I thought well winter will be here for a few months yet so is there another way to look at this?  I know that the weather is one thing I cannot change and have absolutely no control over. But  I can control what I think about it.   I then began to think about all the things I do like about winter and here is my list  so far –

  • Hot soupAllison Fisher Career & Life Coach
  • Slow cookers
  • Open fires
  • Chocolate and berry crumble dessert
  • Cuddling up on the couch with a person or a blanky!
  • Cold clear but sunny days
  • The wild excitement of wind and rain

So I’ve now put out the intention to make the best of what is this winter.

Allison Fisher Career & Life CoachLove to know the things you like about winter.

Achievements

Now is a good time to assess your achievements for the year.  It’s a really good idea to affirm and celebrate your self before exploring what you would like to achieve next year.  Set aside some time to reflect all you have done right in the past year.  Try and write down 20 things that you are most proud of over the past months.  You might like to do this over the next week and keep a piece of paper close by to write things down when you think of them.  Here are some questions to help you –

🙂 What have you achieved or accomplished? 🙂 What qualities of character have you developed or strengthened? 🙂 Have you supported others in some way? 🙂 What special memories do you have with those you love? Once you have completed this then share your achievements with good friends and celebrate them!  Remember this is what you have achieved and you darn well deserve a pat on the back.  Enjoy your YOU celebration time. 🙂

The Magic of Words

I’ve been thinking about how we use words in everyday life.  And I wonder if we  use words enough to tell people how we feel about them, thank them for something they have done for us, admire how well they did something or just say how nice they look.  Sometimes I think it and don’t say it, sometimes I forget to say it and sometimes I get too busy.  There are different ways we can feedback to others.  We could use a card, a txt, an email or say it face to face.  For those who are close to you it would be clever to find out how they like to receive feedback.  A friend of mine just adores receiving and giving cards.  She chooses her words very carefully when she writes in a card.  Now her children write lovely words to her on mother’s day and she writes them a card too.  I guess that is her love language.

Saying nice things to others really takes so little time and those receiving it get such reward from them.  It really is a magical process, the saying of lovely words from the heart to someone and to feel their grateful response.

So that’s my intention for the week is to say more nice things to others.  You might like to try it too.  Be really aware of when and how you can give some lovely feedback to others.

We are so lucky!

We are so lucky so very very lucky to be alive don’t you think?  The people of Christchurch have had a horrendous weekend to be woken in the early hours of saturday morning by an earthquake.  Thank goodness that there has been no loss of life and hopefully there will not be.  Christchurch can pat themselves on the back because they strengthened their buildings 10 years ago and are seeing positive results from that this weekend.  Many many homes and businesses will be condemned but buildings can be replaced people can’t.

However now the long clean up begins.  Many people are still not in their homes and do not have water or sewage.  Lives have been tossed around and will take a long time to be gathered back to some order.  Businesses will be at risk of folding and we must not underestimate the impact of this earthquake on the rest of New Zealand.

But for now we are blessed that we are safe and warm, we have good lives and the people of Christchurch will keep on keeping on.  For today let’s be grateful for what we have and who we have in our lives.

I Am Grateful!

Today I am grateful for the life I have.  So often we look at life for what we don’t have or what we want to change.  Well today quite simply it’s about what is and feeling  happily grateful for that.  No I’m not even going to mention the miseries in the world today it’s all about satisfaction!

I’m grateful for the wonderful people I have in my life.  My amazing partner who just keeps on listening, understanding and supporting me.  Everything I throw at him he takes so well and keeps engaging and meeting me.   And what a domestic God!  I’m grateful for lovely friends who are always there when needed for a laugh or a cry.  I’m grateful for all the opportunities there are out there.

So much the world has to offer, New Zealand has to offer and Auckland has to offer.  Anything I want to do is available if I choose.  For today I am grateful, grateful for who I am,  so very very grateful for a warm bed every night, yummy food whenever I choose, being able to buy a  house, being able to walk most places and feel safe, go to a movie whenever I like and engage in sports or hobbies that give me heartfelt joy.

I AM VERY VERY GRATEFUL TODAY.
