Keep At It!

It is tough out there right now to find a job there is no denying that.   It’s at these times that I wonder about that edge between being positive and being unrealistic.  I have clients every week who have lost their job or who are trying to move on from their current job but its really hard work.  Right now no amount of  positive thinking will create more jobs in New Zealand, in fact we hear daily through the media that the unemployed are rising in numbers.  So how do you keep positive when seeking work how do you keep being positive when reality is showing you something else?

My thoughts are that it is to do with  attitude.  If you believe all you hear in the media you will get swamped.  If you listen to the negative talk of those around you you will be negative.  If you don’t believe that there is the next job out there for you there won’t be.

I think firstly you need to believe against all odds that you will find another job.  Do this by being clear about what job and jobs you want.  Don’t limit your selection to just one job – look around suss out some other options yes they maybe option B but that’s how it is right now.  Get clear also about your skills you have to offer and employer and your strengths. Know yourself well.

Then secondly take action. Do all you can to find the jobs.  This includes firstly having a great CV, networking, searching on Seek and with recruitment agencies.  Follow up old friends you haven’t been in touch with for a while, go to relevant industry meetings to find out what’s happening and whose moving around.

Finally visualise. Everyday before you get out of bed visualise your self at your next job – really see it and feel how it feels, smile and move into your day.  Oh and finally keep off your own back if your doing all you can well done,  there is no point also being down on yourself is there? 🙂 🙂
